How To Be A Composer

Journalist and music critic, Paul Morley left school at sixteen - and hasn’t been back. Until now.

These two films, made for BBC4, follow him as he joins The Royal Academy of Music, London’s premiere music conservatoire, for a year to study composition. Morley's had decades of experience in the world of pop, but formal music’s been a mystery to him. We witness the fascinating process as he goes from no formal musical knowledge to writing his own compositions for public performance.
