Damned In The USA
The controversial multi award winning examination of the ongoing battle between religious fundamentalists, whose goal is 'to clean up the filth in modern society', and the artists, homosexuals, minorities and feminists whose cries of 'censorship' are heard throughout the US.
Comedian Jimmy Tingle acts as a Greek Chorus, and takes a wry look at modern America helping us through he minefield of rhetoric as we travel from ELVIS PRESELY's Mississippi, to 2 LIVE CREW's studios in Miami, to the PLAYBOY Headquarters in Chicago, to New York and the photograpghy of ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE and the music of MADONNA.
The film itself became the object of attempted censorship when Reverend Donald Wildmon of The American Family Association sued the filmmakers and Channel 4 for $8 million, calling the film 'blasphemous and obscene'. He lost.
