Elgar's Tenth Muse
Drama about the brief but intoxicating relationship between young Hungarian violinist Jelly D`Aranyi and the ageing English composer, Sir Edward Elgar.
With James Fox as Elgar, and co-starring Selma Alispahic as Jelly D`Aranyi, Faith Brook as Alice Elgar and Rupert Frazer as Billy Reed.
Elgar's music throughout, played by Natalie Clein and Maxim Vengarov.
"Paul Yule's direction was an affair of refined visual compositions, and there was a real pleasure in the combination of his images and Elgar's music - the composer disappearing into the mist in a slow fade, or the layered profiles of his dying wife and Fox's well-mannered grief. Selma Alispahic was good as d'Aranyi, too. An unresolved cadence rather than a completed work."
