How To Be A Composer

Journalist and music critic, Paul Morley left school at sixteen - and hasn’t been back since. Until now.

These two films, first shown on BBC4, follow him as he joins London’s premiere music conservatoire, The Royal Academy of Music, to study composition for a year.

Morley has decades of experience in the world of pop, but formal music’s been a mystery to him.  We witness the fascinating process as he goes from no formal musical knowledge to writing his own String Quartet for public performance.
